Safari Overview

The bush-and-beach combination is the most popular structure for a Tanzania holiday because the two experiences complement each other so naturally. Five days of game-viewing across the Northern Circuit are followed by a scheduled flight from the Serengeti or Arusha to Zanzibar, and four soft nights on the Indian Ocean. You return home with a balanced trip, adrenaline and rest, dust and salt, vehicle and barefoot.
The safari portion follows the five-day Northern Circuit at a comfortable pace: Tarangire on day one, two consecutive nights in the central Serengeti, and a final descent into the Ngorongoro Crater before transferring to the airstrip. We strongly recommend flying Serengeti-Zanzibar over driving back to Arusha first, it saves a day, you arrive on the coast by mid-afternoon, and the flight itself is a low-altitude scenic over the central Serengeti.
On Zanzibar you stay at a boutique beach property on the east coast, Matemwe, Pongwe or Kizimkazi depending on season and preference. Most guests opt for three nights on the beach and one night in Stone Town, the UNESCO-listed old quarter with its carved doors, spice markets, and Swahili heritage. Optional excursions include a sunset dhow cruise, a spice farm tour, and snorkelling at Mnemba Atoll.
This is our luxury-tier itinerary by default, upgraded camps and lodges throughout, but we run a more accessible mid-range version at a lower price point. Ask for the comparison.
