Safari Overview

The four-day version of the Mount Meru trek adds a full acclimatisation day at Miriakamba Hut (2,514 m) before the climb to Saddle Hut. It is the better choice for any climber who has not been above 3,500 m recently, for guests using Meru as a Kilimanjaro warm-up, or for those who simply prefer a more humane pace. The summit and route are identical to the three-day version; the difference is one extra day at the lower hut.
The acclimatisation day at Miriakamba is genuinely useful. You spend a morning on a guided wildlife walk along the lower trails, Arusha National Park is one of the only places in Tanzania you can walk safely among large game on foot, and an afternoon climb to a viewpoint above the hut. The combination of light exercise at altitude and a full second night at 2,500 m makes a measurable difference to summit night and a meaningful improvement to summit success rates.
All other elements, the armed ranger escort on the lower slopes, the hut accommodation, the knife-edge ridge to Socialist Peak, the sunrise summit with Kilimanjaro silhouetted to the east, are the same as the three-day trek. The price difference is modest and we recommend the four-day version unless you have a hard schedule constraint.
