Safari Overview

The eight day Lemosho takes the seven day itinerary and adds a full acclimatisation day between Karanga and Barafu. That extra 24 hours at around 4,000 m before summit night is the single biggest factor in the improvement of summit success rates from 90% on the seven day itinerary to around 93% on the eight day version. For climbers with the time, and particularly for climbers who are apprehensive about altitude, it is the itinerary we recommend.
The route otherwise follows the classic Lemosho line, starting quietly at Lemosho Gate on the remote western side of the mountain, crossing the vast Shira Plateau, and joining the southern circuit at Barranco. The additional Karanga day allows a rest morning at 3,995 m with an afternoon walk higher up the ridge for acclimatisation, before continuing to Barafu (4,673 m) the following morning fresh and ready for the summit push.
All our Lemosho climbs are KPAP registered. Your crew is paid the proper wage, is limited to 20 kg per porter and is fed and sheltered to KPAP standards. On an eight day climb we typically field one guide plus one assistant guide per four climbers, a chef and three porters per climber.
The summit is reached at sunrise on day seven after a midnight start from Barafu. Descent to Mweka Camp the same afternoon, out through the rainforest on day eight. Total trail is around 70 km.
