Safari Overview

This six-day fly-in itinerary is the classic southern Tanzania circuit, delivering the two headline experiences of the region: Ruaha's dry-country big-cat and wild-dog viewing, and Nyerere's Rufiji River boat safaris and Big Five wildlife. Three nights at each park give real time on the ground without the itinerary feeling rushed.
Ruaha comes first, three nights at a river camp with game drives, walking safaris and sundowners on the kopjes. The park's mega-prides of lion, dry-country antelope, and huge elephant population make for outstanding viewing. Wild dog packs, one of Africa's most endangered predators, are a strong possibility on any given drive.
The itinerary then flies south-east to Nyerere for two nights on the Rufiji. Here the signature experience is the boat safari, drifting past hippo pods and crocodile-lined sandbars, watching elephant cross channels between islands, and cutting the engine to fish eagle calls above. Guided walking safaris are also available, as are game drives across the Rufiji floodplain.
This trip finishes in Nyerere with a 45-minute flight back to Dar es Salaam or onward to Zanzibar. It combines naturally with a beach extension, and pairs beautifully with an Udzungwa hiking add-on for guests wanting a third landscape.
