Safari Overview

3-Day Tanzania Safari

Three days is the practical minimum for a Northern Circuit safari that covers three of Tanzania's signature ecosystems without rushed transits. The route is a classic loop: Lake Manyara on day one, the Ngorongoro Crater on day two, and Tarangire on day three before the drive back to Arusha. It is busy but extraordinarily rewarding, with proper game-viewing time built into every day.

Day one takes you from Arusha into Lake Manyara National Park, where lush groundwater forests of acacia and mahogany open onto the lake shore. Buffaloes, giraffes, impalas, baboons and blue monkeys are resident, the famous tree-climbing lions are a game of luck, and in the right season the shoreline turns pink with millions of flamingos.

Day two descends to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater for a five-hour game drive among lions, elephants, zebra, hippos, jackals, rhinos and an extraordinary bird list, with a picnic lunch at the hippo pool before the steep ascent and the short drive to your accommodation in Karatu.

Day three is a half-day game drive in Tarangire National Park, Tanzania's third largest park, where majestic baobab trees dot the landscape and the Tarangire River anchors some of the largest herds of elephants in Africa, before the return drive to Arusha, arriving by early evening.
